If your sex life is lacking and supersized dildos aren’t really your thing, increasing your intake of foods for better sex may be what you need. Whether you’re looking for foods that increase sex drive, or if your Johnny hasn’t been hard lately, foods for circulation, Christine DeLozier, author of Diet for Great Sex: Food for Male and Female Sexual Health, is here to help. Drop that gas station sex pill, don your apron and prepare to fuck.
The Best Foods for Circulation
Whether you’re a guy who wants a God Cock or a woman who’s desperate for one single orgasm, improved circulation can only help. “When males have better blood flow, they have stronger erections,” says DeLozier. “What many people don’t know, though, is that it’s also critical for female sexual function, arousal and pleasure. Lots of studies have shown that when women have better blood flow, they have better lubrication, clitoral sensitivity and an overall higher level of sexual satisfaction.”
When you’re thinking about foods for circulation, DeLozier says, “There are several categories of foods that increase blood flow. They do so either by increasing nitric oxide levels, which dilate blood vessels, or by improving the quality of the vessels themselves.” Leafy greens, like spinach, celery, cabbage and beets are especially high in nitrates, which increase your nitric oxide production. “In one study, a single serving of spinach increased salivary nitrate levels by 800 percent,” DeLozier notes.
As for improving the overall health of your blood vessels, foods high in potassium are the way to go. “Humans used to take in about 10 times as much potassium in our diets as sodium,” DeLozier explains. “Now, with our heavily-processed diets, it’s just the opposite: We consume about 10 times as much sodium as potassium. This wreaks havoc on our blood vessels and compromises blood flow to the penis, vagina and clitoris. Potassium softens the delicate inner lining of blood vessels, improving elasticity and improving arterial function. The best sources of potassium are baked yams with the skins on, green salads, oranges, bananas, mangos and squash. Try to get a couple of these every day for optimal blood flow.”
The Best Foods for Your Nervous System
There’s no doubt that healthy nerves are one of the keys to pleasurable banging, so we must feed them well. “Life causes damage to our nerves, including those that go to and from our genitals,” DeLozier says. “The food we eat, our stress and lack of exercise, as well as exposure to environmental toxins, cause oxidative stress, which slows down nerve speed. This isn’t what we want for pleasure in the bedroom. One way we can help nerves fire optimally is by nourishing them with antioxidants, which both protect from oxidative stress and repair damage. Plenty of studies have shown that nerves fire stronger, more rapid impulses when we eat more antioxidants. What this means is that we feel more pleasure when our partner touches us.”
Foods especially high in antioxidants include dark chocolate, nuts, berries, beans and, once again, leafy greens, so eat plenty of those for optimal load-induced bliss.
The Best Foods for Better Sex
Bearing in mind everything we just covered, DeLozier says, “Fruits, vegetables and nuts are the best snacks for sex. One of my favorite ways to do this is through my homemade salsa and guacamole, which is made entirely of fruits and veggies.”
The Ingredients for DeLozier’s Sex-Enhancing Salsa and Guacamole
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 1 bunch of scallions
- 2 jalapeños
- 2 limes, juiced
- 1 bunch of cilantro
- A pinch of salt
Mix all of these ingredients in a food processor until they’re finely chopped, then you can go the guacamole or salsa route. For guacamole, add 2 avocados into the food processor and blend until creamy. For salsa, add 2 tomatoes, a ½ teaspoon of cumin, 1 tablespoon of tomato paste and 1 teaspoon of maple syrup or honey.
Take a bite, and get your fuck on.
The Ingredients for DeLozier’s Full Pre-Sex Meal
If you’re looking for something more filling, DeLozier says, “A date-night sex menu would contain foods that improve blood flow in the short-term, and it would not include foods that tank testosterone shortly after eating [low testosterone can lessen your chances of having enjoyable sex]. Research shows that a high-fat meal will do two things: It will sharply reduce testosterone and immediately stiffen blood vessels. On the other hand, omega-3 fats have the opposite effect on blood vessels. A good protein choice for a sex menu, then, would be wild salmon, or walnuts for those following a plant-based diet.”
As a side dish, “A sex meal would also include nitrate-rich foods like leafy greens or beets, and potassium-rich foods like squash,” DeLozier says. When it comes to dessert, she warns, “A sugary dessert will also tank testosterone, so instead of chocolate cake, we could have polyphenol-rich berries, which will have the added benefit of improving blood flow.” (Natural polyphenols, organic compounds found in many plants, improve erections.)
Keep in mind, however, that eating to improve your sex life is a long game, so as DeLozier points out, “Eating this way long-term will have a much greater impact on blood flow” than a single meal.
Now eat up, then eat out.
