If you love doing shrooms, but hate that they taste like dirt, good news: There are other ways to take shrooms besides eating them whole. The best way to eat shrooms may be a personal preference, but here are some options to choose from.
First, though, a word of caution: Before you begin messing around with ways to take shrooms, I recommend you read our guide on how to have a good trip on shrooms. Keep in mind also that one gram of shrooms is generally considered to be a light dose, which is a good starting point. Finally, beware of mixing your shrooms with acidic ingredients, like citrus fruits and coffee, which are known to increase the potency of your trip (more on that momentarily). Now read on, and have fun out there.
How to Make Shroom Tea
One of the more common ways to take shrooms, making them into a tea can be easier on your stomach and taste buds. It can also make the effects of psilocybin mushrooms come on quicker, because they’re easier to digest in tea form. Here’s a simple shroom tea recipe:
- Grind your preferred dose of shrooms into a power using either a weed grinder or coffee grinder.
- Pour hot water over the mushroom powder.
- Let steep for 10 to 15 minutes, and have a good trip!
Feel free to also add chopped-up ginger, honey and/or an actual tea bag, and strain out any floating shroom pieces if nausea is a concern. And if you’re not much of a tea drinker, you can also toss some ground-up shrooms into a blender with frozen fruit, apple juice (or another kind of fruit juice) and yogurt for a wicked shroom smoothie.
How to Make Shroom Capsules
If you’re more of a straight shooter, shroom capsules are a discreet way of entering the nether planes without having to chew your nasty-ass magic mushrooms. All you need are ground-up shrooms, empty capsules and a capsule machine. Godspeed, soldier.
How to Make Shroom Edibles
There are many different routes you can take when making shroom edibles, but remember that psilocybin, the trip-inducing compound in magic mushrooms, begins to break down under excessive heat. That means your best bet is to sprinkle your optimal dose into sauces or as a topping after the cooking stage. For example, you could always melt some chocolate, then sneak some shrooms in and pour it into molds for a very happy dessert. Or you could make a shroom-filled pesto to top some pasta. Feel free to get weird with it.

How to Make Lemon Tek Mushrooms
Lemon tek refers to the process of allowing your ground-up shrooms to soak in lemon or lime juice (for about 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally) before drinking it. The theory here is that the citric acid in citrus fruits mimics the acids in your stomach, breaking down the psilocybin into psilocin, the compound responsible for making you feel funky. Scientifically speaking, this remains a mere theory, but experienced psychonauts hold that lemon tekking can induce a quicker, more potent experience than other ways to take shrooms. Therefore, if you plan on trying this method, consider starting with a lower dose than usual.
Hope one of these ways to take shrooms helps you on your odyssey, and if you make something fancy, save me a bite.
