This Irish Island Is Where We’ll All Live if Trump Wins

What if all the Americans threatening to leave the country if Donald Trump wins in November actually make good on their promise? Where exactly will they go? Back in March, the tiny, near-empty Irish island of Inishturk (population: 58) attempted to entice them to head their way. “I’ve heard there are quite a few people in America looking to move to Ireland and other countries if Donald Trump becomes president,” Mary Heanue, the island’s development officer, was quoted as saying. “I’d like them to know that we’d love to see them consider moving over here.” Whether or not she was serious is open to debate. But her quote made an impression on enough Americans that it went viral and left more than a few of them considering her sleepy, sheep-filled island community as their new home.

To properly contemplate a Trump-less life off the coast of Ireland, we recently sent MEL Films to Inishturk — to see what the locals thought of the presumptive Republican nominee, what they made of the idea of a horde of Americans living among them and how they handled internet fame. The result is our latest mini-doc, Make Inishturk Great Again, which you can watch via the Vimeo embed above.
