Abolish ICE. Abolish Homeland Security. There’s No Doubt Left.
ICE might be the biggest shitshow in our current government — which says something after watching that first debate.
Over the last few years, ICE has engaged in the most shady shit I’ve seen from a government agency since we found out the CIA was really the plug. Separating small children from their families, arresting people while at church and holding children in kennel-like cages — and now, there are reports that they’ve been giving detained women unwanted hysterectomies.
As of the first five months of 2020, 52 percent of those removed from the U.S. had no criminal record at all. That’s a 40 percent increase from the previous three years. Under the current administration, the humiliation and brutality of ICE agents has only gotten worse. Trump’s administration is currently seeking $2 billion more for ICE operation and support than it received the previous year. Asking for 60,000 detention beds, 6,000 more than last year. And after reading the actual proposed DHS budget for 2021, nowhere did it specify overhauling or putting emphasis on oversight or reform. But it did clearly ask for $2 billion to construct an additional border wall.
As the proposed budget for ICE gets larger and the voices seeking its abolishment get louder, I am reminded of how our government has a history of using laws to subjugate and totally disregard the civil rights of minority groups. It happened with the FBI, with Homeland Security after 9/11, it’s happening now with the police and ICE. I agree with Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand: At this point, it’s completely out of hand and totally ridiculous.
There’s only one thing to do: Abolish ICE and Homeland Security. Defund the police.
