Look at any list of popular New Year’s resolutions, and you’ll see the same stuff come up over and over again:
- Get Healthy
- Get Organized
- Live Life to the Fullest
- Spend Less/Save More
- Travel
Somehow, we all want the same stuff every year, and somehow, we don’t manage it, because look, here we are again with another year and the same old promises. Still, it doesn’t have to be this way. We tackled each one of the above resolutions — the most popular from last year — the only way we know how: Admitting we don’t have a clue and asking a bunch of people who know what they’re talking about instead.
In the guides below, you’ll find a round-the-world sailor and an ultramarathoner explaining how to get the most out of travel; a 96-year-old man and a Harvard mindfulness professor offering advice on wringing every last drop from life; and a similarly eclectic list of other experts — from literary agents to hoarding therapists — all wanting to lend a helping hand with everything else.
If this truly is the year where you want to stick to your resolutions, see if these guides can show you where to start.
Alternatively, fuck it, there’s always next year.
