Let’s face it, black dudes haven’t had a lot of opportunities to be the lead of many cool action movies/franchises. We have had, however, a ton of chances to be the cool, plucky sidekick—roles that, in all honesty, often deserved much more screen time. Now, with Black Panther and rumors of Lando getting his own solo movie—without you know, Han Solo by his side—things may be changing for this tired trope.
