Maori Metal
In a particularly pastoral section of the North Island of New Zealand lives the de Jong family—the youngest of whom (Lewis and Henry) formed the band Alien Weaponry back in 2010 when they were 8 and 10 years old respectively. Their blend of metal, traditional Maori heritage and long-standing beef with the system just inspired an album that debuted №1 on the Kiwi music charts. But for now—before they hit it big internationally at least—they can be found either touring around the island in a van with mom and dad at the wheel or jamming in a garage on a farm in their small village of Waipu (pop. 1,491).
Hail the new wave of destruction!
